Web Design Mistakes to Avoid for a Better User Experience

Web design can be a little tricky as it is nigh impossible to please everyone. However, one can still manage to damage their business’s reputation by designing a website that cannot be used by the average person. This could be because of the design of the website, the content, the color scheme or all of them. Here are some web design mistakes to avoid for a better user experience.
Advertising

Advertising is one of the ways websites can generate money for themselves which is perfectly fine in its own right. However, there is an art to it. The first thing that one needs to consider is their target audience. An advertisement is not the reason why they have come to your website, so putting up an advertisement that has absolutely nothing to do with the content you your website is definitely something that one should not do. Also, do not try and trick your target into clicking on advertisements.
Splash Screen
Splash screens are a type of advertisement in which a window pops up in the middle of your website. People do not come to a website to see something they do not wish to see. So do not use splash screen or at the very least, make sure that they have a close or exit button clearly marked so that they can resume reading the content on your website. Otherwise, they will simple move on to your competitor’s website.

Too Much Information
Information is obviously very important. After all, that is why people have come to your website. However, too much information can be a bad thing. While content will no doubt help with SEO, it can severely hamper your design. The last thing you want is for people to visit your website and then immediately close the page because they were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information on the page. Always remember to keep in short and sweet.
The right use of colors can make even the dullest of topics seem interesting. However, the wrong use of colors can do the exact opposite. Using a dark background with a dark colored font or vice versa is a grave mistake what many people still make. Also, ensure that the colours that you pick for the website are web safe colors. Otherwise, the computer will automatically pick a color for the website which is definitely going to alter the look and feel of the website.

Horizontal Scrolling
Sometimes, websites can get to wide for a screen and have to be scrolled horizontally. If a visitor doesn’t notice the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom, then they could miss entire sections of your website. Ensure that the website is responsive so that this problem doesn’t arise.
